$1,000,000 Black Jack Tournament in Ute Mountain
/ 11 January 2006
On January 6 and 7, black jack players from all over the world (including previously invited players of the World Series of Black Jack 2005) gathered at the Ute Mountain Casino, Hotel & Resort in Towoac in Colorado, for the second black jack tournament of the World Series of Black jack 2006. The players were competing for a million dollar price plus a seat in a Vegas black jack tournament.

The field of players was extremely diverse and existed of absolute amateurs to experienced professionals. Unlike the years before when the players got an invitation, this year all players had to qualify for this black jack tournament through satellite events that were held around the country.

The Ute Mountain Casino is the largest casino in southwest Colorado and is now hosting three first phase black jack tournaments. In total, three Vegas seats there will be awarded at Ute Mountain Casino.

One of the famous players in this black jack tournament was Regina Guzior from Michigan, better known as BJ Sweetie and considered one of the best female black jack players in the United States. Since Regina is blind, she has someone who tells her the cards that are on the table and which cards are in her hand. Regina has a lot of experience and participates in black jack tournaments for over ten years.

Darrell Arnold (Rock 'n Roll) from Mississippi, was another start showing up at this black jack tournament. Even though Arnold started playing only three years ago, he already amazed many black jack experts with his skills. Last year alone, he won 61 tournaments in the US.

Another Mississippi black jack hero that was present at this tournament was Ken Smith. Smith is a real veteran when it comes to playing in black jack tournaments and even owns his own black jack website. Ken stated that 2006 is going to be the year of black jack and that eventually black jack will even become more popular than poker.

Despite the number of black jack professionals present at the tournament, none of them went home with the main prize or Vegas seats. The winner of the black jack tournament was Scottie Black from Cal Sprints, Arizona. Black is a 24-years-old amateur, who entered the tournament through winning a $100 satellite competition.
